A guide to getting married in Alaska

Let me guess your thinking about getting married in Alaska?! How stinking exciting! I may be a little biased, but as a photographer I can’t think of a more perfect place for a wedding then right here Alaska.

There are so many epic locations and activities you can incorporate into your special day and make it unlike anyone else’s. Wanna take a helicopter ride?, How about a sailboat tour? or maybe moonlit walk on the beach?

If this sounds like its right up your alley then keep reading because I’m going to give you all the deets. On how to make your dream of getting married in Alaska a reality.

Preparing to get married in Alaska

Having a great wedding experience here in Alaska is all about the prep before hand. Prepping and planning before the day of will help you avoid any last minute stressors and allow you to fully embrace your day.

Some may turn to google for advice about their day, but another great option is talking with a Alaska wedding industry professional like a photographer or planner. They will be able to give you real life insight on what its like getting married in Alaska.

Apply for an Alaska marriage license

The process for applying for a marriage license in Alaska is pretty straight forward. You will fill out all of your personal info on this document and then mail it back. Once you’ve paid your fees and your application has been approved. You will have to wait 3 days to get your license.

But if applying for an Alaska marriage license is something you forgot before the three day waiting period. Fret not friend there are a few other options for those who are not local to Alaska. You can always legally get married at your county clerk office before celebrating your day here in Alaska.

Find a beautiful location for your Alaska wedding

Whether you decide to go the venue route or decide you want to say your vows on a beautiful place of land. There are tons of great places to do just that here. Some cute Alaska wedding venues you should check out are; Raven glacier lodge, Millers Landing, Between Beaches, Arctic Garden, and Forget me not Nursery.

If you decide that you just want to use a beautiful piece of land that the earth has provided. Here are just a few things to keep in mind. Certain locations may have fees for use or may be closed during some periods of time throughout the year. But if you have your heart set on a certain location just be sure to do some research.

Reach out and book the dream team of wedding vendors in Alaska

Whether you are getting married in Alaska a year from now or two years from now its never to early to reach out to those vendors. Wedding vendors in Alaska tend to book up fairly quickly especially during the summer months.

So don’t wait to reach out. I know as an Alaska wedding photographer it always stinks having to turn away couples because I don’t have their date available. So to avoid the heartache for both of us send us a message!

My recommendation is reaching out and booking your venue or your wedding planner for your preferred date. Then reaching out to all your other vendors like; photographer, videographer, florist, hair and makeup, dj, cake, ect.

Pack your bags and hop on a plane

Woo woo let’s get this parted started because you my friend are heading to Alaska. If you are wondering what you should bring with you on you trip double check this checklist and make sure you got everything you need! I always say it’s better to air on the side of caution and pack more than you will think you need.

  • Wedding Dress
  • Shoes (Boots, Sandals, Heels, Dress shoes, ect)
  • Suit
  • Sunscreen and Bug spray
  • Hygiene Products
