During May of this year, I attended a photography retreat and stayed at this ocean oasis. While there I stayed in the beach house located just off the shore. Every morning I remember waking up and wondering how this was real life. This place was so beautiful. I didn’t want to pack up and leave, but now I’m so glad I get to share this place and these photos with you!
Getting to Between Beaches Alaska
Getting to this Alaska wedding venue was pretty cool! We boarded a boat in Homer, Alaska that took us to our home for the week in Seldovia, Alaska. The ride lasted around 30 minutes and we got to see some wildlife along the way. The ocean was a little choppy on this day but the crew at Mako’s water taxi had it all under control.
Once we arrived the staff at Between Beaches Alaska helped us unload our bags onto the shore. Once everyone arrived we were all shown our places to stay. Some of us stayed in the cabins on the property while the rest of us hung out in the beach house.
The staff during our time there went above and beyond for us. They even hung out with us during some of our group photography discussions. The venue owner also gave us some props she collected over the years for us to use during our photoshoot. These items made the perfect additions for our wedding flat lays photos.

During our shoots, we shot on both sides of the MacDonald Spit. On one side of Between Beaches Alaska you get the sunrise and on the other, you get the sunset. As a wedding photographer, this is a huge win since both of these times are the best for lighting. This means great photos for you to remember this day by!

What to do while visiting Seldovia, Alaska
While staying at Between Beaches in Alaska I did more than just take pretty photos. Most nights I had the luxury of jumping into the hot tub and watching the sun go down. It was so nice to have a little fun while investing in my business. At the end of every day, we also had a group campfire!
I even spent some evenings walking along the shoreline. I found so many pretty spots that would be perfect wedding portraits. Adding a little bit of adventure for couples who are up for it on their special day!
On the last day of the trip, we even took the Kayaks out on the water. I had never Kayaked in the ocean before. So I was a little nervous, but once I got out on the water I was too mesmerized by the breathtaking views. We even got to see a little sea otter on our way back to the shore.
You can even take a taxi to the city of Seldovia and explore during downtime. There are shops located right inside town if you need to pick up food or souvenirs from your trip down to the coast!
These activities can also be incorporated into your destination wedding or elopement as well! I mean how cool would it be to jump into a kayak in your wedding gown and paddle out to the sea? I think definitely think that would be pretty freaking cool!
