You’re newly engaged with your sweet lovebug looking for a photographer who matches you and you’re soon to be spouses energy. I’m a firm believer what better way to do that then a complimentary engagement session! Engagement sessions give us time to get to know each other on a more personal level. After all we will be spending anywhere between 6 to 10 hours with each other over the course of your day and for that reason I include a complimentary engagement session in each package!
Many brides when they first reach out to me ask what to wear to their engagement session. I like to make this time as stress free as possible and for that reason I use a third party source called style and select. Style and select allows me to pick out custom outfits based off my style as well as your input. It styles for both males and females and is an interface for many designer brands. This helps ensure that when you show up to your session that you are looking your absolute best! We gotta send out those save the dates! Even if the site is just used for inspiration it prevents couples from showing up with outfits that clash.
“But my husband doesn’t like photos!” I hear this so so so often! My goal for every single one of my sessions is to create a date night setting. I prefer to work on a system of prompting rather than posing so what that looks like; “grab her from behind and throw her over your shoulder and run toward me, alright maybe try to bounce her off your back.” Personally I find this method is way more beneficial than giving direct poses. I also use an app called unscripted that before the session I map out your session with prompts before I show up. I also love to open up my session with warm up poses basically what that means is that I like to start with poses with a lot of movement so things like run to me, pick her up, give her a piggy back ride and so on. This also helps with a lot of those session jitters and awkwardness. Believe me I’m the queen of awkward!
Locations matter! This is a huge moment that is meant for the two of you! If theres a certain place that means a lot to you what better way to celebrate your new engagement! I’m personally a huge fan of sunset chasing it creates those dreamy images that really showcase the love between the two of you. Some of my favorite locations to shoot at are; Pilot Rock in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Lookout mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Narrows of the Harpeth in Cheatham County, Tennessee, Long Hunter State Park in Nashville, Tennessee as well as Cades Cove, in the Smoky Mountains or near Townsend, Tennessee.
Planning your engagement session! There are a lot of factors that can go into this especially if your planning to use these photos for your save the dates! I completely recommend booking an engagement session with each of my couples a month to two months after booking depending on their wedding date. You want to allow yourself at a minimum 2 weeks to receive your images from your session as well as allow ample time for your guests to plan to attend your big day.
Some common questions I like to ask each and every one of couples are; “What is your love language? What do you like most about the other?, If you pick one song to describe your love for one another what would it be?.” I like to be on a much more personal level with each of my couples. While I am a photographer my goal at the end of the day is so much bigger then that! Think about it I’m about to be apart of one of the biggest days of your life! My goal is always to come away with a life long friendship! I wanna be cheering you on whether its in person or from the sidelines of social media. I love following the stories of my couples and seeing wherever their life takes them.
So let’s tell the love story of the two of you. Let’s celebrate this incredibly milestone in your life. Let’s create the type of memories you’ll want to look back on for years to come! I can’t wait friends!
